STORIES — From Anxious to Social
Sarah, English, UK: I was hired to work with a student who struggled with social anxiety. She would often avoid making new friends or participating in group activities. Her parents decided to hire me to help her on a one-to-one basis, with her studies, but also as ‘a big sister’ type of role model. As her tutor, I worked with her to develop social skills, such as active listening and effective communication, as well as maintaining her level in English. We also practiced social scenarios to help her feel more comfortable in social situations. As a result, she started to make more friends and even started to participate in after-school clubs. I still get updates from her parents to this day!
