STORIES — Making science palatable
Brian, Science, USA: I tutored a high school student struggling with her confidence in science. I was determined to help her unlock her true potential. When we began our tutoring sessions, she would often get discouraged by complex equations and abstract concepts. She believed science was beyond her reach, and her grades reflected her lack of confidence. However, I saw a bright and curious mind waiting to be nurtured. We started by breaking down complex scientific ideas into manageable, relatable pieces. We would use everyday examples to explain scientific principles. For instance, I would compare chemical reactions to baking cookies, and suddenly chemistry became a lot more palatable. As we progressed, I noticed her growing self-assurance. She would actively participate in class, answer questions with confidence, and even volunteer for experiments. It was incredible to witness her transformation from a timid student to a fearless young scientist.
